Find People Through Midvale Records
Choose the first record by what is already known. A full name fits the Salt Lake County Assessor, Utah Courts XChange, a professional license lookup, or a business filing. An old street address fits the parcel search, Recorder Data Services, tax ledgers, and later a reverse directory. A family event belongs in the vital-record or newspaper trail. Each source answers a narrow question, so one result should supply the next search term.
Midvale is a city, not a separate county records district. The city keeps its own council, permit, code, police, justice-court, and other local administrative files. Salt Lake County holds land, assessment, marriage, tax, and election records. Utah agencies run statewide courts, licenses, corporations, corrections, voter status, vital certificates, and archives. Keeping those levels straight prevents a request from landing at the wrong office.
- Start with a full name in the free Assessor owner search or the official license and corporation tools.
- Save each exact address, parcel ID, case number, agency, and date before moving to another system.
- Use XChange for a court party name, then obtain the actual file from the court that heard the case.
- For family history, pair open vital indexes with newspapers, cemetery records, probate, and census material.
- When no index exists, send the right custodian a narrow request naming the series, person, place, and date range.
Route a Midvale Records Search
Two offices use the word recorder but perform different work. Midvale's City Recorder handles records created by city government. The Salt Lake County Recorder keeps land instruments, maps, plats, and property-linked documents. The County Assessor maintains the assessment roll and offers the easiest free owner-name search. For access classifications, fees, and formal request steps, use the focused Midvale public records system overview.

The County Clerk is a separate stop for marriage licensing, election services, candidate disclosures, and county GRAMA routing. Midvale also publishes direct routes for Building and Safety records and Code Compliance contacts. Court files follow judiciary channels, while recent certificates follow Utah vital-record rules. A portal miss does not settle whether a record exists.
Search Midvale Property Owners
The Assessor gives a practical name-first route into Midvale property records. Its current search accepts an owner, address, or parcel number. The older detailed form asks for at least the first three letters of a name and formats individuals as last name, comma, first name. A parcel result can show the owner name, tax-mailing address, physical or situs address, legal description, parcel ID, property type, tax district, values, and building details.
| Search input | Format | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | Last Name, First Name | Move from a person to possible parcels |
| Address | Choose the standardized suggestion | Move from a known site to its parcel card |
| Parcel number | 00-00-000-000-0000 | Carry a stable land ID between systems |
The Salt Lake County Assessor search shows those three starting fields.
Copy the parcel ID exactly, including leading zeroes. Keep the mailing and situs addresses separate. The first is where tax notices go; the second locates the land. Neither alone proves where a person now lives. The county's GIS parcel tools explain the land identifiers, while the Parcel Viewer adds boundaries and map context. Utah also does not publish final real-estate sale prices, so assessed or market value must not be treated as the amount paid.
Note: A tax-mailing address can guide another search, but it is not proof that the named owner lives at that location.
Midvale Recorder Search Has Layers
The Recorder's free option starts with an address or parcel and returns a quick list of documents attached to that property. It is useful for finding document types and entry points. Richer Data Services products include owner history, recorded-document detail, tract indexes, chain of title, legal descriptions, subdivision maps, plats, and images. Temporary access costs $5 for 150 data units and ends when the units are spent or after 24 hours.
The Recorder Data Services access screen makes the free and paid paths visible.
This is a key local myth to avoid: online does not mean complete or free. Start with the no-cost property list, then pay only when a chain, image, tract search, or legal description is needed. At the office, deed abstracts and recorded indexes remain another route, but staff does not perform title research for patrons.
- Grantor
- The party transferring an interest in land.
- Grantee
- The party receiving that interest.
- Chain of title
- The sequence of recorded transfers tied to the same land.
- Legal description
- The recorded land identity, which is more durable than a street address.
Search Midvale Court Records
Midvale Justice Court handles class B and C misdemeanors, infractions, city ordinance cases, traffic, and small claims. Third District Court handles general civil, domestic, probate, felonies, and class A misdemeanors. Utah Courts XChange searches public CORIS summaries across district and justice courts. A result can show court, case number, filing date, party names and roles, hearings, filed documents, judgments, charges, and outcomes where those fields are public.
Salt Lake City district data are complete after December 8, 1997. West Jordan data begin with its June 2005 opening and conversions, while public district e-file images generally begin July 1, 2010. Older or transferred judicial records may be at Utah State Archives. Sealed, expunged, juvenile, and other protected material stays out of public results.
| System | Midvale connection | Access route |
|---|---|---|
| Midvale Justice Court | Local ordinance, traffic, small claims, lower misdemeanors | Clerk and public XChange summaries |
| Third District Court | General civil, probate, domestic, and felony cases | XChange, clerk, or free public terminal |
| U.S. District Court for Utah | Federal cases | PACER at published per-page rates |
The Utah public case-search screen offers guest and account access.
Online guest access begins with a $10 credit, then charges for each search and document. Most district courthouses and the Utah State Law Library provide XChange terminals without the online search charge. Call before relying on a justice-court terminal.
Trace Midvale Heirs Through Probate
A deceased owner's trail often joins three sources. Start with a probate party or decedent search in XChange for modern cases. A docket may name a personal representative, attorney, heir role, judgment, or letters of appointment, although guardianship and other protected details may be withheld. For older Third District and territorial probate material, search Utah State Archives finding aids and ask for the identified series or case file.
Then add obituaries and newspapers. They may connect relatives, former addresses, funeral details, and cemeteries that the court index does not show. Salt Lake County Library offers newspaper and genealogy tools through the Ruth Vine Tyler branch, while Utah Digital Newspapers supports keyword and event-type searching. Treat names in a notice as leads until they agree with probate, deeds, or an open vital record.
Access Midvale Vital Records
Utah's Office of Vital Records and Statistics holds births and deaths from 1905 forward and marriage or divorce abstracts for 1978 through 2010. Salt Lake County Health Vital Records provides the local certificate counter for qualified applicants. Marriage records outside the state abstract span belong with the County Clerk, while an actual divorce decree remains with Third District Court. A state abstract is not the same item as a decree or full court file.
Recent certificates are controlled records under Utah Code section 26B-8-125. Applicants generally must be the subject, immediate family, a guardian, or a designated legal representative and must submit identification, proof of relationship when needed, an application, and a fee. Birth records open after 100 years, death records after 50 years, and marriage or divorce vital records after 75 years. The public opening rule creates a genealogy path without turning current certificates into an open name index.
Note: A generic GRAMA request cannot replace the certificate application, identity proof, relationship evidence, and fee required for a controlled record.
Midvale Birth Records Reach Archives
The strongest local historical vital index is the Salt Lake County birth-register name search for 1898 through 1905. Searchers can move from a name result to the archive citation and then ask for the underlying record. County tax material reaches 1853, tax appraisal cards begin in 1936, and Utah Archives also preserves court, naturalization, citizenship, military, and cemetery series.
The archive path matters because many older records were never placed in a modern public portal. Start with the Utah State Archives research catalog, record the creator and series information, then use reference help or an in-person visit. The Ruth Vine Tyler Library is better for licensed databases, newspapers, and catalog access. Salt Lake County Archives is the specialist for county tax and historical property material.
Note: A modern portal miss may point to transferred paper or microfilm, not to the absence of a Midvale record.
Search Bingham Junction Records
People connected to Midvale before its 1909 incorporation may appear under Bingham Junction, a county precinct, a nearby community, or a Salt Lake City directory title. Salt Lake County itself was called Great Salt Lake County until January 29, 1868. Those older place names belong in catalog, census, naturalization, newspaper, and court queries. They are search terms, not just local color.
The rail, mining, and smelting economy also points to useful sources. Immigrant workers and boardinghouse residents may surface through federal census schedules, naturalization papers, newspapers, military records, and employer or occupation references rather than a deed. The Galena smelter dates to 1873, the large USSRMCO plant to 1902, and a long 1946 strike creates a focused newspaper trail. Modern Bingham Junction redevelopment records may preserve former industrial parcel descriptions that bridge past and current maps.
Verify Midvale License Records
A professional or business search can distinguish people who share a name. Utah's Division of Professional Licensing tool accepts a name with Beginning with or Containing options, a profession filter, or a license number. Results can include profession, license type and number, status, issue and expiration dates, plus discipline references. The official professional-license search form shows those routes.
A license confirms a regulated credential and its status. It does not prove a home address or that two similar names are the same person. Compare the profession, dates, license number, and any official discipline docket before using it as an identity link. Utah's corporation system serves a different purpose. It can expose entity names, status, registered or principal office details, agents, and listed principals where the filing provides them. The Utah business search is the official starting point.
A registered agent is not automatically an owner. A state entity filing also does not prove a current Midvale business license. City licenses are administered by Community Development, but no verified public master name index was found. Request a defined current list through Midvale GRAMA when the state filing is not enough.
Note: A corporation filing, professional credential, and Midvale business license describe different roles and must be checked through their separate custodians.
Check Midvale Custody Records
The Utah Department of Corrections lookup covers people in current state incarceration, probation, or parole. A name search needs at least one letter in both first and last name, or it can use a UDC number. Results may include legal status, facility placement, offense and sentence data, key dates, committing court, and case number. Match the number, court, and dates before deciding a result belongs to the intended person.
The Utah offender search interface is statewide rather than a county jail roster.
A no-result does not rule out county detention, federal custody, or a past case. Salt Lake County jail information comes from the Sheriff, federal incarceration uses the Bureau of Prisons locator, and court history belongs in XChange. VINE provides custody-status notifications rather than a full historical record.
Use Midvale Directories and Voter Lookup
Midvale's contact pages identify city officials, departments, and public business contacts. Canyons School District, Utah agencies, colleges, license boards, the Assessor, and historical library sources each act as a limited directory. None is a complete resident list. The local Midvale directory comparison explains who each source lists and what its fields mean.
Utah's voter tool is also limited. It is an identity-gated self-check, not anonymous browse-by-name access. A voter supplies a full name, full date of birth, street address, and reCAPTCHA to reach status, districts, polling, sample ballot, and tracking information. Bulk voter data has statutory purpose, security, and disclosure limits. Use the individual tool for one's own registration and Salt Lake County Elections for help.
When Midvale Portals Miss
First check the jurisdiction and spelling. A postal Midvale address may sit outside city limits, while county property systems cover the whole county. Keep street directionals, use the portal's standardized address, preserve parcel-number zeroes, and try Bingham Junction for early residents. Search a court name with a location and date range because case numbers are not unique statewide.
Next move through the access channels. Call or visit the recorder, assessor, court clerk, health counter, County Archives, or Tyler Library as the record type requires. XChange is paid online but free at many district courthouse and State Law Library terminals. Recent vital certificates need their special application. Older files may require an archive series request. For a city administrative record, send Midvale's recorder a narrow GRAMA request with the record series, person or address, date range, preferred format, and a cost ceiling.
Note: Ask for an existing electronic record or index; GRAMA does not require an office to create a new title abstract or custom conclusion.
Compare Midvale Search Costs
Official tools split into free, metered, and counter-based access. The Assessor, state license lookup, corporation search, corrections search, historical birth index, and Utah Archives catalog offer free starting points. Recorder Data Services has a free property document list but charges for richer data. XChange charges online, while public terminals remove the search fee. Libraries may provide licensed genealogy tools only inside a branch.
| Access choice | Cost pattern | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Official free index | No search charge | A lead, status, parcel, citation, or record pointer |
| Official paid detail | Data units, search, image, or copy fee | More fields, document images, or certified copies |
| Counter or archive | Inspection may be free; copies or staff time may cost | Material missing from the web and custodian confirmation |
| Commercial compilation | Subscription or report charge | An unverified lead that may be stale or merged incorrectly |
Use a commercial compilation only as a pointer and never as official proof. Return to the named custodian for the actual record, current status, or certified copy. This keeps a Midvale search tied to the source that can explain its dates, limits, and corrections.
